As a responsible company, we at NICO Europe see the effects of climate change not as a distant threat, but as a concrete challenge of our time. That is why we have been ctively supporting certified projects for carbon offsetting and reforestation of our forests for years - in Germany and around the world. Not because we are obliged to, but because it is important to us to make a positive contribution.

Our support for environmental projects is not a symbolic act - it is part of a long-term change in awareness at NICO. We not only want to offset emissions, but also actively contribute to the preservation of our natural resources.
The regional reforestation of our local forests is particularly important to us. After all, a healthy, climate-stable mixed forest not only filters CO₂ from the atmosphere - it also reliably protects our biodiversity, secures drinking water and provides a habitat for numerous species.

We have offset our unavoidable emissions in recent years through international climate protection projects. The N2O PROJECT in EGYPT and the BUJAGALI HYDROPOWER project in UGANDA are TÜV-NORD certified, meet recognised standards and make a global contribution to environmental protection.

We are also investing in ecologically sound reforestation projects in Germany. Together with our partner DEUTIM, we are planting mixed forests that are suitable for their location, thus ensuring long-term CO₂ sequestration - effectively and right on our doorstep.

Our goal: to create 100 tonnes of CO₂ storage every year through regionally tangible reforestation measures - in the long term and in a traceable manner. For all other remaining and unavoidable emissions, we rely on or certified international CO2 compensation.

THE ‘NICO’ FOREST IS GROWING
What makes our forest project so special

Our long-term goals
Our commitment does not end with one project year. We plan our environmental activities conscientiously and with foresight:
We will continuously store CO₂ until at least 2030 - regionally, transparently and comprehensibly.
Regional reforestation remains our focus. Every year, we invest in a project volume of at least 100 tonnes of CO₂ storage.
We offset unavoidable emissions voluntarily and additionally via certified international climate protection projects with recognised standards.

Our measures are validated and documented. We receive a corresponding certificate from DEUTIM for each project year. This certificate transparently confirms our contribution to international CO₂ offsetting and CO₂ storage.

Our regional reforestation commitment is carried out in close partnership with DEUTIM, our expert for climate-stable mixed forests. The ‘Waldemarie’ project also makes our commitment digitally visible - on real forest areas in Germany.
DEUTIM doesn't just plant trees:
Its projects include site-appropriate reforestation, cultivation, monitoring, soil protection and environmental education. This not only offsets CO₂ emissions, but also transforms monocultures and repairs ecological damage.
